New Delhi, Jan 8: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday nominated Justice AK Sikri to be part of the High Power Committee which will decide the fate of CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma.

The committee also comprises of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

The development comes a day after the Supreme Court reinstated Verma as CBI Director and said he would “cease and desist” from taking any policy decisions till the issue of denuding of his powers was decided by the High Power Committee.

“We deem it proper to direct that… Verma … upon reinstatement will cease and desist from taking any major policy decisions till the decision of the Committee permitting actions and decisions becomes available within the time-frame indicated,” a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K.M. Joseph said in its verdict.

The Court also directed the HPC to meet within a week from Tuesday.
