JNU Students fined for cooking biryani near admin block

New Delhi, Nov 10: Jawaharlal Nehru University has imposed fines ranging between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000 on students for cooking and eating biryani near the Administrative Block.

A proctorial inquiry took place into the matter after some students prepared food near the stairs outside the Administrative Building while others waited inside for an appointment with the Vice-Chancellor on June 27.

“In the proctorial enquiry you have been found guilty of being involved in cooking food (biryani) near the stairs in front of the Administrative Building and eating it thereafter along with other students… This act is serious in nature, unbecoming of a student of JNU and calls for strict disciplinary action,” the order read, news agency PTI reported.

The order asserted that students have been fined under “any other act which may be considered by the Vice-Chancellor or any other competent authority to be an act of violation of discipline and conduct.”
