J&K: More civilians died in militancy related incidents in 2017 in comparison to 2016


Answering a question raised by BJP’s Sat Sharma, Jammu Kashmir Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday told that 213 militants, including 127 foreign militants and 86 local militants, were killed in 2017 as compared to 150 militants, including 119 foreign militants and 31 local militants, in 2016.

She also informed the assembly that in 2017 almost 51 civilians lost their lives in comparison to 2016 when 20 civilians died in militancy-related incidents.

Informing the assembly about steps taken by the government to counter insurgency she said that the state has deployed enough army personnel equipped with adequate weapons.

On the question of weapons recovered from the militants, the government stated that it recovered almost 320 weapons including Rifles, pistols and revolvers.
