J&K BJP leader alleges women are disrespected by party leaders

Srinagar, Sept 1: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha executive member from Jammu and Kashmir alleged that women are exploited by male leaders.

The incident reportedly took place when BJP member Priya Jaral complained party state president Ravinder Raina about the ill-treatment and misconduct against women in the state unit following a function to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on August 30.

Jaral urged Raina to protect “matru shakti’” (women power).

The Mahila Morcha executive member alleged that there is no respect for women in the party state unit and “they (party’s male leaders) don’t know how to behave with women”.

Later speaking to local media, Priya Jaral alleged that a leader, who she did not name, had asked her to get in touch with top party leaders if she want a promotion.

Jaral, further said that several BJP women had witnessed a similar situation and had to quit politics after they refused. “This is what is happening with women (in the party). Those who comply move up the ladder,” she said.
