J&K: 3 terrorists killed in Srinagar encounter

Srinagar, May 5: Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chattabal area of Srinagar on Saturday.

Meanwhile, three CRPF personnel were also injured during the gunfight.

The militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Ravideep Sahi, IG CRPF said “3 terrorists killed, 3 security personnel injured. It was a clean operation, there has been no damage to the building. I thank the people of Srinagar for their cooperation”.

As per news agency IANS reports, one civilian identified as Adil Ahmed Yadoo was killed after being hit by a vehicle during clashes by residents in Safa Kadal — a densely populated downtown neighbourhood on the banks of Jhelum.

Locals have alleged that a CRPF vehicle ran over Yadoo but its spokesperson Rajesh Yadav refuted the claim.

“There was no CRPF vehicle in the area and the allegation is baseless,” Yadav told IANS.

Following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area, security forces including state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel cordon off Gasi Mohalla.

“As the security forces tightened the cordon, the holed-up militants fired at them triggering the gunfight,” news agency IANS reported citing police sources.
