Jharkhand: Seven of family commit suicide in Ranchi


Ranchi, July 30: Seven members of a family committed suicide in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi on Monday. 

Speaking to media,  DIG AV Homkar said: “Prima facie, it appears that 2 brothers killed rest of their family, then hanged themselves due to financial issues”.

“A 15-page and a 2-page suicide note recovered from them”, he added.

Deceased include the two brothers, their father, 2 women, a boy child & a girl infant.

As per the police, Children and their father were strangulated. Mother had suffered injuries from a sharp weapon.

Deepak Kumar Jha, working with a leading private firm, committed suicide along with his parents, brother, wife and two children, a police officer said.

According to house owner A. Mishra, Deepak Jha, 40, wanted to set up his own business but was in debt. His younger brother, Rupesh Jha, 30, was unemployed.

The five other family members were found dead on the bed.

The incident took place at Boria area.  The police have not found any suicide note.

This is the second case of mass deaths within last 10 days in Jharkhand.

Six members of a debt-ridden family died in Hazaribagh. However, it was not clear whether the mass death was a case of mass suicide or murder.

Earlier last month in a similar incident, the eleven members of a Delhi family were found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 30.
