Jayalalithaa death: Both Houses of Parliament adjourned till Dec 7 after paying respect

New Delhi, Dec 6, 2016: Both houses of Parliament adjourned for the day after paying tribute to the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who died in Chennai on Monday night.

In Rajya sabha, as the house assembled for the day, Chairman Mohmmad Hamid Ansari read out the obituary reference to the iconic leader.

The house observed two minutes’ silence before being adjourned for the day.

On the other hand in Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan remembered her as a “popular and eminent leader”. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the AIADMK leader.

The house was then adjourned for the day.

Jayalalithaa, who was admitted to a hospital in Chennai for over two months, died at 11.30 p.m. on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.
