Despite strong words by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, there has been no end to the incidents of vandalism of statues of prominent leaders and ideologues.
Several incidents of statue vandalism of famous leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, E V Ramasamy Periyar and Vladimir Lenin, have been surfaced from various parts of the country over the last few months.
Reports of instances of the toppling of statues sprung soon after the results of the Assembly elections in Tripura were declared.
As following the BJPs victory in the state over the Left, which was in power for over 25 years, an idol of Communist icon Lenin had been bulldozed in Tripura.
