Javed Akhtar says Gurmehar trolled by “hardly literate player, wrestler”; Yogeshwar hits back

New Delhi, Mar 1, 2017: It seems like the Twitter war over a campaign started by a Kargil martyr’s daughter Gurmehar Kaur against the right-wing of RSS, ABVP spun hideous on Tuesday, when cricketers, actors, and even wrestlers exchanged charges on the social media site.

A day after Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag and Bollywood Actor Randeep Hooda trolled Gurmehar by mocking the family of a martyr and unnecessarily bullying martyr’s daughter. These prominent personalities were also backed by Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt after he compared Kaur to Hitler and Osama bin Laden.

Gurmehar, is a student of Lady Sri Ram College and daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh. She received a barrage of hate messages over her opposition to ABVP led ruckus at DU’s Ramjas College.

After the shocking incident at DU’s campus which left several students and professors wounded, Gurmehar launched a social media campaign with hashtags #FightBackDU and marked DU students are not afraid of ABVP.

On February 22, Ramjas College had witnessed never-seen-before violence inside the Delhi University campus between members of AISA and ABVP workers. The genesis of the clash was an invite to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar on ‘Culture of Protests’ which was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP.
