Janmashtami 2018: Have a glimpse of Lord Krishna birth celebrations

New Delhi, Sept 3: With Jai Kanhaiya Lal ki chants, Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated across the country on Monday. 

The festival marks the birth of Lord Krishna, who is considered as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

As per the Hindu lunar calendar, Kanha was born on the eighth day at midnight in the Shravana month.

Despite rains, heavy rush, lakhs of Lord Krishna devotees have reached the temple town of Mathura, Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh to celebrate Janmashtami.

This year Janmashtami falls on September 2 and 3.

Elaborate Security has been put up and police personnel in casual clothes have been deployed at major temples, especially in braj (Vrindavan and Mathura) region of North India.

On this eve, people observe the whole day fast and also enjoy the dahi-handi event, visit local fairs and exchange sweets.
