Jammu and Kashmir: Soldier martyred in Pakistani firing

Srinagar, Dec 6: An Indian soldier was martyred on Thursday as the Pakistan Army violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. 

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the Pakistanis resorted to “unprovoked” firing in Machil sector, starting at 10.45 a.m.

The Pakistanis used automatics and mortar shells. A civilian house was damaged in the ceasefire violation in Kamalkote area.

“Our troops retaliated effectively and strongly. One of our soldiers was martyred in the Pakistani firing,” he said.

This comes a day after, two soldiers were injured in Pakistani shelling in Uri sector of Baramulla district.
