Jammu and Kashmir : Indian, Pakistani troops trade fire on LoC

Jammu, June 11 : Heavy firing traded between Indian and Pakistani troops on Sunday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir after Pak army initiated firing and shelling in civilian areas,  a defence official said.

“Pakistan army initiated indiscriminate firing and shelling on our positions on the LoC in Rajouri district’s Bhimber Gali sector at 9.45 a.m.,” Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

“The firing is going on and our forces are effectively retaliating.” officer added.

All this took place after Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling and firing at Indian military posts on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, No causalities and major loss to property has been reported in the incident.

Prior to this, the Pakistani army initiated the ceasefire violation around 8.20 p.m., on Saturday at three places in the Krishna Ghati sector.

“They first initiated with small arms and automatic gunfire, but later used 82 mm mortars. Our posts effectively responded back ,” the officials added.
