Jallikattu: AIADMK MPs meet President; says ordinance likely to come into effect today

New Delhi, Jan 21, 2017: A day after the central government gave its nod to the Tamil Nadu government’s ordinance to enable holding of Jallikattu, AIADMK MPs on Saturday met President Pranab Mukherjee over bull taming sports issue.

They expressed confidence that by Saturday evening the ordinance will come into effect.

Speaking to the media, AIADMK leader M Thambidurai said, “We requested the President for holding Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu (at the earliest).”

“We strongly believe by today evening the ordinance on Jallikattu will come into effect. The issue of Jallikattu was in the concurrent list and therefore late Amma (Jayalalithaa) stressed the need to solve it but Centre omitted our request,” he added.

The chorus supporting the bull taming sports Jallikattu is getting louder with people witnessing nation-wide protests on Saturday.
