Jaitley dares opposition to begin debate over notes ban

New Delhi, Dec 7, 2016: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today dared the Opposition to begin the debate over the demonetisation, the issue which has rocked Parliament since the winter session began on November 16.

“Opposition wanted Prime Minister to be present in the house so PM has been regularly present but it seems the opposition just wants to disrupt proceedings for one reason or the other. I challenge them to begin the debate if they have courage,” Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha.

The Finance Minister also accused the Opposition of raising the issue for publicity.

“They raise the issue everyday for two minutes during Zero Hour for television coverage. They don’t bother whether discussion continues or not,” he said.

Jaitley’s statement came after Leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said on demonetisation that “its been a month now and 84 people have died” and added that government took this decision without planning, who is responsible for so many deaths?

Jaitley was speaking during Zero Hour after the opposition parties created a ruckus over the demonetisation issue.
