New Delhi, July 11: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh termed the raids carried out by the government at the offices and homes of distinguished senior advocates Indira Jaising and Anand Grover as “latest in a long line of coercion, brute show of intimidation as well as a gross abuse of power.
“I join my fellow parliamentarians in strongly condemning the raids carried out by the govt at the offices & homes of distinguished senior advocates Indira Jaising and Anand Grover. This is nothing but coercion & intimidation against those who do not agree with the govt’s policies,” Ramesh said as the Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha wrote to PM Narendra Modi, condemning the raids on senior advocates.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out raids at properties belonging to senior lawyers Anand Grover and Indira Jaising in Delhi and Mumbai, in an alleged violation of FCRA norms.
The letter was signed by MPs from the Congress, TMC, SP, CPI and CPI(M).
It further said that the two who were well known for their “pioneering work” in the field of human rights had fully cooperated with authorities “ever since the criminal charges were filed against them in alleged FCRA violation cases”.’
“I raised a Special Mention in Parliament today urging the new Minister of Jal Shakti to bring a River Regulation Zone(RRZ) notification for protection of floodplains of our many rivers. We must do everything we can to reduce the risks to life & property due to recurring floods,” he tweeted.
