London, Nov 22: People who are bullied or experience violence at work are at higher risk of developing heart and brain blood vessel problems, including heart attacks and stroke, according to a new study.

The findings revealed that those who were bullied almost every day had 120 per cent higher risk of CVD.

Exposure to frequent workplace violence increased the risk of cerebrovascular disease such as stroke by 36 per cent.

“If there is a causal link between bullying or violence at work and cardiovascular disease, then the removal of workplace bullying would mean we could avoid five per cent of all cardiovascular cases, and the eradication of violence at work would avoid more than three per cent of all cases” said Tianwei Xu, a postdoctoral student from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

“Workplace bullying and workplace violence are distinct social stressors at work. Only 10 to 14 per cent of those exposed to at least one type of exposure were suffering from the other at the same time,” Xu said.

For the study, published in the European Heart Journal, the team examined 79,201 working men and women, aged 18 to 65, with no history of CVD.

They found that bullying at workplace occurred mostly from colleagues (79 per cent) rather than from people outside the organisation (21 per cent).

However, violence or threats of violence at work originated mainly from people outside the organisation (91 per cent), than from within (9 per cent).

The study is observational and, therefore, cannot show that workplace bullying or violence cause cardiovascular problems, only that there is an association. The researchers noted their results are robust and have important implications for employers and national governments.

“It is important to prevent workplace bullying and workplace violence from happening, as they constitute major stressors for those exposed and have policies for intervening if bullying or violence occurs,” they said.

Nehpreet Kaur- Design and Creative Head, Femina Flaunt; Alisha Malik- Vice President Marketing and creative face Mochi Shoes and Accessories; Mimi Hrahsel- Business Head, Shaya by CaratLane list down few tips for every bridesmaids

* This wedding season, opt for a trendier and more experimental look with ruffled lehengas. You can either style the lehenga with a traditional blouse or crop top, however you please and look like a damsel to impress. Ruffled lehenga is an epitome of sheer perfection in terms of the draping technique and is sure to make heads turn.

* Bring out your inner desi girl with a generous dose of glamour. Move away from the mundane fabrics and silhouettes by mixing and matching Indian and Western elements to create interesting ensembles. Strapless blouses are definitely the flavour of the season.

* Inspired by season’s Pantones of the year — Rose Quartz and Serenity — are pretty pastel for the new age festive. “Blushing pink” or “something blue” is dreamy pallet that breaks the saturated molds without veering too far outside of wedding territory.

* The trend which is dominating the industry is silver jewellery. This current favourite is incredibly Indian yet modern in style and instantly elevates your look. So, indulge your inner glam girl and go ahead and pair that crisp off-shoulder blouse with intricate statement making earrings. A chunky piece of silver earrings instantly injects contemporary edge into any outfit.

* Don’t be shy of experimenting with your jewellery. It is time to break the fashion rule that necklaces and necklines go hand in hand. No, they don’t! For instance, accentuate your open neckline gown with a choker style to add a little boldness to your look without overwhelming it.

* After you are set on the perfect dress, you will need to find all of the accessories. One of those are the shoes to accompany you as you cater to you bridesmaid duties. Ensure your shoes are comfortable yet fabulous as you know who’s going to be doing the running around for the bride. Heels can be a sassy showstopper, or they simply can be a lovely, elegant and a final touch to complement your look.

* The shoes for bridesmaids are the final element creating a polished, cohesive wedding day look! Invest in styles that will drop jaws, and that you’ll wear again. Opt for a pair of subtle nude stilettos or off-white pumps. If your outfit is subtle, pair it with metallic or bold colour heels.

Sagging skin ageing

New Delhi, Nov 22: As you start ageing, skin may begin to sag as a consequence of a natural loss and weakening of collagen and elastin. However, keeping in mind a few basic steps can help you in getting rid of the sagging skin.

Neeleshwari Basak, owner of Worldwide Institute of Grooming and Pageants, and Arpita Das, Managing Director of Beauness By Arpita, list some steps.

*Smart SPF: UV damage speeds up the loss of firmness of the skin, therefore wearing a moisturizer with a broad spectrum sunscreen on a daily basis is the easiest way to help prevent sagging.

* Moisturize smartly: It is highly recommended to apply a moisturizer with vitamins C and E both morning and night to your face and neck. Moisturizing is important to keep the skin firm and smooth as you age. While selecting the right moisturizer, look for ingredients like Aloe Vera, soy protein, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Vitamin A.

* Need extra effort: To improve the appearance of the skin that is already slightly saggy, you should look for moisturizer with the right, powerful ingredients. Go for a moisturizer that contains peptides and Niacinimide (or vitamin B3), it will help strengthen your skin’s natural moisture barrier and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

* Proper massage: A hydrated skin is indeed fuller and massaging the moisturizer into the skin in a circular motion for a few minutes will improve the blood circulation and will give a temporary plumping effect to your skin. Do massage your neck in upward direction that will prevent any sagging of the skin in that area

* Do facial exercise: Follow some facial exercises that are able to prevent sagging. Regularly do the facial exercises after applying the moisturizer because it will prevent your skin from pulling. The first exercise is to smile without moving your cheeks and hold it for a few seconds, then release. Do this 10 times. Another exercise is – smile as broadly as you can and place your fingers on the top of your cheekbones. Push down the cheekbones with your fingers for 10 seconds. Repeat this 5 times.
