June 27, Tuesday : Opposition Presidential Candidate Meira Kumar on Tuesday described the contest for the country’s top post as a battle of ideologies.
In her first press conference after being nominated for presidential elections, Kumar thanked the opposition party for choosing her as their candidate and said togetherness of these political parties is based on a common ideology.
Addressing to media, Kumar asserted she will contest the Presidential election on the basis of ideologies of democratic values, equality and social justice.
She would begin her campaign from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat.
Speaking on the presidential election being emerged as a Dalit vs Dalit, Kumar said it reveals of the people, where caste takes precedence over the candidate’s merits, adding we should rise above caste and religions.
When asked about, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s support for National Democratic Alliance Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind,She said she has written to leaders asking them to “listen to the inner voice of their conscience.”
On Sushma Swaraj’s allegations of being biased against Kumar, she stated during my tenure as the Lok Sabha Speaker, everyone has hailed my work be it opposition or then ruling party and no one has accused me of being partisan.
