IPS officer Surendra Kumar Das, who consumed poisonous substance, dies in Kanpur

New Delhi, Sep 9 : IPS officer Surendra Kumar Das,who was is in a critical condition after consuming some poisonous substance , passed away on Sunday afternoon at Kanpur’s Regency Hospital.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his deepest condolences to IPS Das’s family on his ad demise.

IPS Surendra Kumar  allegedly consumed poison at his residence .

The officer had been battling for his life in a hospital after consuming some poisonous substance on Wednesday. The 30-year-old IPS officer belonged to 2014 batch and was serving as Kanpur City SP.

CMO Regency Hospital Rajesh Agrawal said,”He passed away at 12:19 pm due to celphos poisoning. We tried our best to revive him but we could not save him.”

Dr Rajesh Agarwal a senior doctor at the private hospital where Das was undergoing medical treatment had on Saturday said that many organs of the officers body had stopped working.

Senior police officers including DGP, ADG (Law and Order) and others have expressed grief over the demise of the officer.

Investigations indicate that the IPS officer was in acute depression for the past few days and had searched the Google for ways to commit suicide.

SSP Anant Deo said on Thursday that IPS officer was in acute depression for the past few days and had searched the Google for ways to commit suicide. the officer consumed ‘sulphas’ powder due to marriage troubles.

He had asked his domestic help to bring  ‘sulphas’ powder from the market for killing rats.
