Pune, 30 Jan: Yet another female software employee was hacked to death in the city in a month after a 25-year-old woman from Kerala, working at Infosys Pune, found strangled inside office premises.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Vaishali Mane, the deceased identified as Rasila Raju O.P. who was found murdered on the ninth floor of the conference room building in Phase II of the IT park.
It is learnt that the software engineer was strangled to death by a computer cable. There were also marks of violence on her face, police said, adding that she was hit hard before strangulation.
While the police are yet to ascertain the cause of murder, they have detained 26-year-old Bhaben Sailcia, from Assam who worked as a watchman in the office as the prime suspect.
The police informed that the victim was murdered between 5p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. The watchman was the sole man who could have had access to the room where the deceased was working on a project on Sunday.
Raju was apparently on a 2 p.m. -11 p.m. shift. At 5 p.m., her team in Bangalore stopped receiving her calls. The worried team then alerted the security on the Pune campus.
It was late evening by the time the police reached the premises.
By this time, the suspect was trying to move Assam via Mumbai. However, the police were able to trace his movements by tracking his mobile number. He was nabbed from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in the early hours of Monday.
“We have begun the primary probe. An FIR will be shortly registered. We are checking the CCTV footage and questioning other employees of the company,” Mane said.
In December last, Antara Das, an employee of Capgemini was killed outside her office in the city’s Talawade area.
