India’s Airport on high alert after Istanbul attack

After the tragic attack at Istanbul’s main International Ataturk Airport in which 36 killed and more than 100 injured, In India, security has been beefed up at the airports across the country including Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai Airport.

Armed personnel manning watch booths at the airport entrances were increased, patrolling populated stretches within the terminal and the waiting areas outside was also escalated, said officials from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that mans India’s airports.

“Such incidents (terror attacks) have become so common that we are on high alert almost throughout the year,” said a senior CISF official.

Queues at security checks are likely to move slowly owing to the increased scrutiny, officials added.
