Hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh , who have come to seek refuge in India for economic reason or out of fear of religious prosecution , will be given Indian citizenship. This move is both for political benefits and humanitarian reasons as about 2 lakh Hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh are living in India as ‘illegal migrants’.
Modi government’s decision will be applying to Hindu minorities and not to Muslim migrants who are driven by economic conditions from Bangladesh as “outsiders.
This shows Modi government is working on Hindutva agenda
The home ministry is ready with the amendments to citizenship law that will exempt minority citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh who have come to India out of fear of religious prosecution from being tagged as “illegal migrants”.
Once the amendments are made to the Citizenship Act, 1955, such refugees will be legally allowed to stay in India and also apply for citizenship.
