Mumbai, Dec 12, 2016: In a major victory, India thrashed England by an innings and 36 runs in the fourth Test here on Monday to claim the five-match series 3-0.
England started the final day at the Wankhede Stadium trailing by 49 runs with four wickets remaining and required something exceptional to avoid defeat.
But India took just half-an-hour to send them packing as deadly off-spinner Ashwin clutched all four wickets, taking his match haul to 12.
Jonny Bairstow (51) was the first to get out in the morning, followed by Ben Stokes (18), Adil Rashid (2), James Anderson (2).
England posted 400 in their first innings before India put on a massive 631, including a Virat Kohli double century and tons for Murali Vijay and Jayant Yadav.
Star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dismantled England, picking up 6/55 in the second innings to take 12 wickets in the match.
