India has a history of providing shelter to immigrants : Congress leader Charan Das

Raipur, Aug 12 : On the issue of Assam NRC, Congress leader Charan Das Mahant said that India has a history of providing shelter to refugees and immigrants and the tradition of allowing immigrants was followed during former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s rule.

“Under Indira Gandhi’s leadership, India provided shelter to all immigrants , never deported anyone, Some enter India as guests  and some as poor people. We should give them shelter , provide security ,” Charan Das said.

“Indira Gandhi ji ka samay ho chaahe poorv ho, Bharat ne sabko sharan diya hai. Humne kisiko bhagaye nahi hai. Koi mehman bankar aata hai, koi gareeb ban kar aata hai. Hum logon ko unko rakhna chaiye, unki suraksha karni chaiye,Chief of the party’s Chhattisgarh Election Campaign Committee Charan Das Mahant  said.

Chief of the party’s Chhattisgarh Election Campaign Committee Charan Das Mahant said, “talks of an alliance are underway with parties including with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati’s, nothing is final as yet.”

A Supreme Court  had  projected historical thesis that India is largely a country of old immigrants and that pre-Dravidian aborigines, ancestors of the present Adivasis, rather than Dravidians, were the original inhabitants of India. This is the thesis put forward in a judgment delivered on January 5, 2011 by a Supreme Court of India Bench comprising Justice Markandey Katju and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra.
