India has been experiencing continuous infiltration of terrorists from Bangladesh and Pakistan besides many persons from Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra have joined Islamic State training camp in Afghanistan. The situation is quite alarming because of the increasing number of intricate jihadists of different terror outfits operating in India. Thus, India faces diverse challenges in the coming years from internal tensions from various quarters to the threat posed by terrorists from the bordering countries.
The Bangladeshi government has warned India that over 2000 Harkat-ul-JIhadi al-Islami (HuJI) and Jamaat -ul Mujahideen Bangladesh operatives have entered India through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border as West Bengal, Assam and Tripura has been converted into safe havens for the Bangladesh terror outfits.
Moreover there are reports that over 30,000 people in India belonging to the cadres of ISIS are ready towage war against India. Recently an Islamic State affiliated group, Ahwaal Ummat Media Centre has warned India about Taj Mahal (India’s biggest tourist attraction)being the potential target of terror attack.
Aware of the increased terror activities in India, the US state Department issued advisory on September 9,2016 cautioning their citizens to avoid visiting India in view of terrorist groups active in India namely Harkat-ul-Jihad-i-Islami, Harkat ul Mujahidin, Indian Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.The HuJi and JMB terror groups are also linked with other Islamic terror groups in Pakistan and poses a danger for India.
However, Indian government continues to deny the presence of Islamic State group in India saying that a country of over 1.2 billion people consists of traditionally moderate Muslim population. But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s stern action against militancy and terror groups in Bangladesh are pushing them in India and thus collaborating with the elements of Khorasan province that operates in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In July 2016, ISIS claimed responsibility for the ruthless killing of people at a cafe in Dhaka. Many Indians who went to Afghanistan to join ISIS were given training in Nangarhar Province which is close to the country’s eastern city of Jalalabad and has approximately 3000 terrorists.
This is high time that the Narendra Modi government should adopt and implement a military strategy to resolve the grave problem at an early stage so that it may not acquire an unimaginably situation that will be difficult to handle later.
