New Delhi, Aug 2 : While accepting the invitation extended by Imran Khan for attending his swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, former Indian cricketer and Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said that Imran has risen from scratch in politics, and he sees him “as a ray of hope.”
Terming the invite by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as a great honour for him, Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said that he would be attending the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as Pakistan’s Prime Minister, slated for August 11.
Sidhu ” He has risen from scratch in politics, he has exhibited great character. I see him as a ray of hope.”
“It is (a) great honour, I accept the invitation. Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared, but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted. Sportsmen build bridges, break barriers, unite people,” Sidhu said .
Sidhu asserted that invitation extended to him by Imran is not a political one but a based on personal ties as sports person and said, “I respect the foreign policy of the Government and the country, but this is a personal invitation(Imran Khan’s swearing in). I believe sports persons and artists break barriers.”
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had on Wednesday said it will send formal invitations to former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for the ceremony.
