United Nations, Sep 25: About 130 countries including India has signed the pledge to fight the global drug menace that was drafted by US President Donald Trump. As External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj exchanged pleasantries with US President , Trump expressed his love for India and asked Swaraj to give his regards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While launching the global campaign to fight against the “scourge of drugs” with links to terrorism, US President Trump asked for coordinated action to “save the lives of countless people in all corners of the world”.
Trump urged leaders across the globe to work together to fight against drug addiction and stop all form of trafficking and smuggling which provides ‘financial blood life’ to all the illegal and unauthorised cartels.
“Illicit drugs are linked to organized crime, illegal financial flows, corruption and terrorism,” Trump said in a brief speech at the High-Level Event on Counter-Narcotics convened by him on the eve of the annual UN General Assembly meeting that brings together world leaders.
About 130 countries commit to developing national action against drug addiction, block at their borders and strengthen international cooperation against drug trafficking.
During the high-level event on counter-narcotics , External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told Trump that she brought greetings from PM Modi and exchanged pleasantries with US President.
Trump happily said, “I love India, give my regards to my friend PM Modi.” She further said that illegal drugs, corruption and terrorism were linked to organised crime.
