An infertility centre that allegedly conducted illegal surrogacy operations was busted by hyderabad police task force on saturday.
In its raid to Sai Kiran Infertility Centre which does not have authority for the procedure of surrogacy the police found 45 surrogate mothers. the women were confined to a place near the centre and they were paid 3 lakh for surrogating.
the original cost that the centre was getting from illegal surrogacy is around 30 to 45 lakhs.
Task Force Deputy Commissioner of Police Limba Reddy told the English daily (the new indian express ) “Fearing that the surrogate mothers would run away, they were confined to the hospital. The women used to be provided with Rs 10,000 as subsistence allowance.
Hyderabad Police Task Force conducted this raid in coordination with Hyderabad district medical and health office. However last year a surrogacy bill was introduced by the government to restrict the illegal surrogacy in the country but the bill is yet to be passed in parliament.
