Here’s what Sridevi advised Janhvi

Janhvi , Sridevi

Mumbai, May 30: When Sridevi, who had an impeccable dressing and style sense, saw bits of her daughter Janhvi’s yet-to-release Bollywood debut “Dhadak” before she passed away, she was happy but gave her some make-up advise.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who has produced “Dhadak”, spoke to Janhvi for an interview for Vogue India’s June issue. He asked what the late actress said to her daughter when she saw 25 minutes of the film footage.

Janhvi said: “She was very technical about it. The first thing she told me was the things I needed to improve — she felt the mascara was smudged and it really bothered her.

“The second half has to be different, she told me… ‘You can’t wear anything on your face.’ That’s all she told me, but she was happy.”

Janhvi is the elder of the two daughters Sridevi had with Boney Kapoor. She and her younger sister Khushi are among the most photographed youngsters in Bollywood today as the paparazzi keeps a close eye on what they wear — whether to a party or to a gym.

“It’s flattering that anyone would care what I look like after the gym. I feel like I haven’t done anything to earn that attention, so I don’t know how to react. Should I smile and wave because they’ve been waiting and it’s courteous? Or should I hide because I’m sweaty?” Janhvi asked.

While Sridevi — who died in Dubai in February — always looked perfect, Karan said Janhvi and Khushi have emerged as “teen fashionistas” who are “unknowingly setting trends”.

Jahnvi said that other than films, fashion is something that they bond over.

“We love clothes and are roughly the same size. We enjoy dressing up. Papa would call us ‘three women on a mission’ when we shopped. He has always been very into our look — he would approve them or make us change.

“And all of those photos of mom and me before events? He clicked them,” she said.

Janhvi, who will make her Hindi film debut with Ishaan Khatter in “Dhadak”, was also asked to name a contemporary lead actor that she finds attractive on screen.

She named Rajkummar Rao, Dhanush and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

“They’re so good! I’m attracted to someone who can immerse me, and all these actors are so expressive.”

So amazing bodies don’t do it for her, but their body of work?

“Definitely. I’m not sure if I should say this, but after watching ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, I really wanted Rajkummar Rao to notice me, so I commented on all his photos. He’s the only person I’ve asked for a photo with.”

Which actress does she admire most?

“Alia (Bhatt)… She is in top form.”

Mumbai, Sep 20 : Aarti Bajaj, first wife of Anurag Kashyap, has come out in support of the filmmaker, who has been accused by budding actress Payal Ghosh for sexual harassment.

On Sunday, Aarti took to her unverified Instagram account and posted a note describing the #MeToo allegations against Kashyap as the “cheapest stunts” she has seen till now.

“First wife here… You are a rockstar @anuragkashyap10. Keep empowering women as you do and the safest place you create for all of them. I see it first hand with our daughter. There is no integrity left and the world is full of losers and no brains baying for blood of anyone who has a voice.”

“If everybody spends the energy which they use in hating others constructively this world will be a better place. Cheapest stunt I have seen till now. First it made me angry then I laughed so hard as it cannot come more framed then this. I am sorry that you have to go through this .That’s the level of them. You stay HIGH and keep using your voice. We love you,” Aarti wrote.

Aarti and Anurag have a daughter named Aaliyah.

The controversy sparked off after Payal tweeted against Kashyap on Saturday.

“@anuragkashyap72 has forced himself on me and extremely badly. @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help,” Payal had tweeted.

Kashyap has denied such allegations.

“Kya baat hai, itna samay le liya mujhe chup karwane ki koshish mein. Chalo koi nahin. Mujhe chup karaate karaate itna jhooth bol gaye ki aurat hote hue doosri auraton ko bhi sang ghaseet liya. Thodi toh maryada rakhiye, madam. Bas yahi kahunga ki jo bhi aarop hain aap ke sab bebuniyaad hain (Wow, it took you so long to try to silence me. Never mind. In the process of silencing me, you dragged other women in this, despite being a woman. Please have some dignity, madam. All I want to say is that every allegation is baseless),” Kashyap wrote on Twitter.

Mumbai, Sep 20 : Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap”s friends from the film industry, Taapsee Pannu, Anubhav Sinha, Tisca Chopra and Surveen Chawla, have come out in support of the director after actor Payal Ghosh accused him of sexual harrassment.

On Saturday, Ghosh took to Twitter, claiming that the “Gangs of Wasseypur” director was sexually inappropriate towards her, an allegation Kashyap called “baseless”.

Ghosh, 30, tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in her tweet, requesting him to take action against the filmmaker.

Pannu, who collaborated with Kashyap on the 2018 romantic-drama “Manmarziyaan”, took to Instagram and wrote that the filmmaker was “the biggest feminist” she knew.

“For you, my friend, are the biggest feminist I know. See you on the sets soon of yet another piece of art that shows how powerful and significant women are in the world you create,” the “Thappad” actor wrote.

Sinha said the existence of the #MeToo movement is to amplify voices of harassed women and it should not be misused.

“It is the joint responsibility of women and men both to carefully protect the sanctity of #Metooindia. It is a very very very important movement that should not be misused for any other reason but the dignity of women,” Sinha tweeted, tagging Kashyap.

Chawla, who worked with the filmmaker on his two-part Netflix series “Sacred Games”, said the allegation against the director reeked of “opportunism”.

“Let them creep. Let them crawl. You my friend, as always stand tall. These false flag bearers of feminism… Opportunism? They dont honour men like you. For their lack of knowledge in knowing know who you really are, and claims they make, that are just so bizzare.”

In a subsequent tweet, Chawla said Kashyap”s legacy is stronger than the allegation.

“Your life, your work and the women you create with your craft…speak volumes about you. I have the privilege to know the real feminist in you, I take the honour my friend to stand for you! @anuragkashyap72,” she added.

Chopra, who featured alongside Kashyap and Chawla in the short film “Chhuri”, said the filmmaker was one of the biggest supporters of talent, be it men or women.

“To know my friend @anuragkashyap72 is to know generosity, honesty and decency at its core .. even a cursory look at his work reveals his worldview on women .. don”t know a bigger supporter of talent, men or women,” she tweeted.

Earlier on Sunday, in a series of Twitter posts in Hindi, Kashyap dismissed the allegations, dubbing it an attempt to “silence” him.

The 48-year-old director has been vocal against the criticism and vilification of Bollywood by celebrities and trolls online.

“Such a long time was taken to shut me up, never mind. (But) while shutting me up, you lied so much that you dragged other women also in it. Please maintain some dignity madam. All I will say is that all your allegations are baseless,” Kashyap tweeted.

Post her revelation, Ghosh found support in National Commission for Women, with its chairperson Rekha Sharma assuring the actor that the NCW will take cognisance of the case.
