NEW DELHI: After getting the tag of rape capital, Delhi is now on the way to top in the list of India’s Stalking Capital according to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau.
It seems the national Capital want to up its graph in crime only as in recent years it has saw number of crimes against women that has shuddered the entire nation and in spite of that Delhi government is unaffected with the surveys.
As the data found that Stalking cases more than doubled in the city last year, jumping from 541 in 2014 to 1,124 in 2015. That places Delhi in second position among all states. Only Maharashtra, with 1,399 cases, had higher number of stalking incidents. No other city came anywhere close.
The rise in stalking cases was in sync with an overall rise in crimes against women in Delhi. There were 17,104 such cases in 2015, up from 15,265 in the previous year. These included 5,367 cases of molestation (4,179 in 2014, 3,345 in 2013) and 2,199 rape cases, again up from 2,096 in the previous year.
As per NCRB, most victims of sexual assault were found between the ages of 18 to 30. In 90% of the cases, the accused were known to the victims.
Some shocking crimes against women were reported during the year, such as the murder of a girl in a busy Anand Parbat market by her stalker in May. In September, police had to arrest its own constable on charges of harassing a Delhi University student in east Delhi.
