New Delhi, Feb 21: Delhi Police on Tuesday solved the horrifying case held in Delhi’s one of the most frequently visited places.

Police arrested the accused who allegedly raped a Nagaland woman last week in Delhi’s Hauz Khas.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ishwar Singh identified the accused only by his first name, Jhandal, 23.

The accused, who was working as a part time cleaner at some pubs and restaurants in Hauz Khas village, was identified with the help of CCTV footages.

Singh informed that police examined the around 40 CCTV footage of 40 pubs and restaurants located in the area to chase the accused.

He said the accused was caught in the early hours on Tuesday from nearby Arjun Nagar, where he was staying in a rented flat.

The victim’s cellphone which was snatched by Jhandal to prevent her from calling the police after he committed the crime was also recovered by the police.

Police said the 24-year-old woman had went to a Hauz Khas pub with a group of friends and her elder sister before she was allegedly assaulted on Saturday night.

She was returning to her residence alone when the accused offered her a ride home, saying his vehicle was parked at some distance, police said.

He then took her to an deserted place in the nearby park area and allegedly sexually assaulted her. The woman, police said, had also hit the accused with a stone before he escaped from the spot.

She later went to a police party patrolling the area.
