New Delhi, April 12 : Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana after Police baton-charged the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students in Karnal, most of them female, who were protesting over the death of an ITI student who was run over by a state-run bus at the highway near the institute.
Uploading a video in which police thrashed girls with batons in Karnal district in Haryana, Surjewala said “Girls now need to be protected from BJP as the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana is hitting girls with batons. The “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”slogan has been transformed into “Harass Beti Thrash Beti”.
He said “the video shows how our daughters are mercilessly beaten up in Khattar’s rule.”

The protesters claimed the student was hit by the bus but the driver did not immediately bring the vehicle to a halt and the student was crushed to death.
While the protesting students pelted stones on the police, the cops resorted to lathi-charge and fired teargas shells to disperse the crowd. Several students were injured.
The protesting students were demanding action against the driver of the bus and were expressing their displeasure over the attitude of the roadways bus drivers in general allegedly leading to such accidents.
