Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, ‘the Nightingale of India’ turned 89 on Friday.
Words are short to describe the greatness of melodious legend. With around 25,000 songs in over seven decades, Mangeshkar is country’s one of the finest singers as her soulful voice resides in all of us.
She began her career in 1943 at the early age of 13 with the song “Naachu ya gade, khelu saari…” for Marathi film “Kiti Hasaal” and stepped into Hindi cinema with the song “Paa laagu kar jori re” for Vasant Joglekar’s movie “Aap Ki Seva Mein”.
Mangeshkar got her first major break in 1948 with the song “Dil mera toda” in the film “Majboor”.
