New Delhi, Jan 9: Director-Choreographer Farah Khan is celebrating her 53rd birthday today but even after so many years, her dancing styles are entertaining and brilliant.
She entered Bollywood industry by choreographing dance sequence for her first film Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar. Till date, Farah has choreographed for more than hundred songs over the years in Bollywood films and most of them have a trademark step that you can never forget. Be it her first song as choreographer, Pehla Nasha or Fevicol Se, every song is known for its choreography.
So, On the ocassion of her birthday, we have listed 10 of her best choreographed songs in Bollywood:
(Chaiyya Chaiyya, Dil Se)
‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from film Dil Se is one of the most famous songs as well her Farah’s one of the most popular and best choreography in Bollywood. It was necessary for her to do complete justice by her choreography to the soulful and beautiful song composed by A R Rahman. This song is set up on a moving train, had most whistle-worthy sequence and Farah’s choreography on Malaika and SRK makes the song look vibrant. She even won a Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for Chaiyya Chaiyya.
(Ek pal ka jeena – Kaho Naa..Pyaar Hai)
Nothing matters more than a first impression for a newcomer in Bollywood. Hrithik Roshan, with a little help from Farah’s iconic hand gesturing step, established his reputation as a flawless dancer and the step from this song became his signature step. The dance in the song played a major role in making this song a super hit.
For this song, Farah Khan won her second Filmfare Award for Best Choreography.
(Le Gayi Le Gayi – Dil To Pagal Hai)
Yash Chopra’s blockbuster film Dil To Pagal Hai(1997) featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor, earned a lot of popularity for its chartbusters. Sung by veteran Asha Bhosle and Udit Narayan, the number still makes us go crazy. Karisma Kapoor’s sizzling dance moves won our hearts and thanks to Farah for amazing Choreography.
(Idhar Chala – Koi Mil Gaya)
After a series of successive flops, Hrithik bounced back with 2003 flick Koi Mil Gaya. The science-fiction film helmed by his father Rakesh Roshan set the box office on fire. Besides a brilliant plot, it had amazing songs as well. Hrithik treated us with his dancing prowess with Idhar Chala which became very popular. Farah received a National Award for her choreography in the film.
(Tumse milke – Main Hoon Naa)
Farah Khan debuted as a director with 2004 film Main Hoon Na starring Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen in the lead roles. The film and the songs became super hit and Farah Khan established herself as a successful director from the beginning. One thing that strikes audiences mind in the film is the beautiful and colourful song Tumse Milke Dilka hai Jo Haal which is set in a typical Bollywood qawaali style with winsome jhatkas and matkas.
(Desi Girl – Dostana)
The song that made everyone dance on its tune is another best choreography done by Farah Khan. Priyanka’s jhatkas and matkas were adorable and she was treasure for her amazing dancing skills in the film. The song made Priyanka forever ”Desi Girl” of B-Town. The choreography of this song makes it look boisterous and sizzling.
Sheila Ki Jawani (Tees Maar Khan)
The 2010 film tanked at the box office despite featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Although the film Tees Maar Khan failed to impress the audience, the film served them with one of the hottest and sexiest item song performed by Katrina Kaif. This song was magical and tempting and Katrina bagged the title of one of the sexiest actresses in the Bollywood industry. And Farah Khan won a Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for this song.
(Munni Badnaam Hui – Dabangg)
When it comes to setting the box office on fire, there is only one name that comes to our mind. Salman Khan. When the 52-year-old superstar donned the cop’s attire and enthralled the audience with his dance moves on Munni Badnaam Hui, we enjoyed it to the core. The 2010 Eid release became a blockbuster, and the Munni song—an icing on the cake and played an important role in film’s success.
(Fevicol Se – Dabangg 2)
After the stupendous success of Dabangg, Salman and Farah teamed up again for its sequel two years later. This time, it was Kareena Kapoor Khan who left us swooning with her dance moves on the song Fevicol Se along with Salman. The film was a runaway success, and the song was no less popular.
Badtameez Dil (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani)
The Ayan Mukerji film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani was also popular for its melodious soundtrack which became a rage among the youths. But it was Badtameez Dil featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Kalki Koechlin which stood out in the film. Farah once again earned accolades with the brilliant dance moves.
