The Haji Ali Dargah Trust on Monday informed Supreme Court that it was figuring out a separate way to ease women devotees to access the Mazar (mausoleum) of the Sufi Saint.
Senior Counsel Gopal Subramaniam who appeared for Haji Ali Dargah Trust requested for two weeks’ time for the same. The SC bench of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice L. Nageswara Rao noted the development in the case as “positive.”
The bench said that “You can have four weeks’ time if you are going to strictly comply with the High Court order.”
The Haji Ali Dargah Trust came to Supreme Court challenging the verdict of Bombay High Court. Earlier in August, Bombay High Court passed a verdict granting the access to women to the restricted areas of the Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai.
A PIL was filed by Noorjehan Niaz, Zakia Soman and many others regarding the restrictions and Bombay HC order came on the same.
