In a commendable move, Gurugram is set to have an advanced earthquake warning system as Haryana falls in the seismic zone IV, III and II which is vulnerable to earthquakes.
An Onsite Earthquake Warning and Security System will be set up at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), an official informed on Thursday.
This system has eight threshold values which will give signals, raise public alert and shut off gas, water and power supply when a severe earthquake hits.
The system has the capability of calculating the intensity of an earthquake.
The system gets activated automatically at the intensity of 5 on the Richter scale, before destructive secondary waves hit, HIPA Director General S.P. Gupta said.
