Srinagar, Sep 25 : Fierce Gun battles are underway between the security forces and terrorists in Baramulla and Sopore districts in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Security forces have launched a cordon and search operation in Baramulla following exchange of fire with terrorists in the early morning. No casualties or injuries have been reported. More details awaited.
Authorities on Tuesday closed educational institutions and suspended mobile internet services in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town following a firing exchange between the security forces and militants.
The brief gun battle took place in Nowpora village of Tujjar area, police said.
Troops of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), special operations group (SOG) of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) started a search operation in Nowpora following a tip off about the presence of militants there.
Hiding militants fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight, a police officer said. “Firing has stopped, but the search operation continues,” he added.
On Monday, three terrorists were gunned down after an infiltration bid was foiled by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The infiltration bid was foiled in Kupwara’s Tangdhar sector on Sunday. A security personnel lost his life during the action.
On Sunday, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama. He was identified as a top commander of Pakistani origin belonging to the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
