Gujarat: Another communal clash reported in less than a week


Gujarat, March 31: Another communal clash is reported from Gujarat in less than a week today.

As much as three people were injured, 1 of them is critical after a clash was raked up among two communities of Savarkundla town in Amreli district on Saturday, said police.

The clash began after a mob attacked a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor from another community.

As per police, a group of people attacked and thrashed the accused and two of his friends for raping a minor girl from other community. The scuffle was heightened as people from two communities gathered and hurled stones at each other, said police.

The situation is under control as said Amreli Superintendent of Police Jagdish Patel. The officer informed media that two teargas shells were used to disperse the mob after they refused to leave the spot.

The situation is under control now and we have called a peace meeting between members of two communities. A large number of police personnel are deployed in the town to avert any flare up,” said Patel said.

The accused Zakir Bhatti (24) is booked for raping the girl and the injured are admitted in Amreli civil hospital, where one of them is critical, said police.

Earlier on Saturday communal violence was erupted at Vadavali village in Patan district in which 1 person died and six were injured severely. As many as 50 houses were ransacked and set ablaze after a minor fight between two students of different communities. Police arrested 13 people later on.
