New Delhi, Sep 22: Gujarat’s noble body for trade and industry cautioned the state and centre, by saying the provisions of Goods and Services tax has created chaos and confusion among the entrepreneurs, if corrective measures are not taken then situation may aggravate in the future, DNA reported.
They have also asked for clarity on tax rate applicable on several goods and services to avoid state of puzzle at a later stage as well as demanded that adjudicating authorities be chaired by judges to avoid partiality in the order.
Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Shailesh Patwari in a letter to the Union Minister Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, asserted “There is chaos and confusion related to various provisions of GST Acts and, in particular, the rates of taxes on the supply of goods and services or both,” the letter read.
Not only this, highlighting the delay in operationalizing Advance Ruling Mechanism, which clarifies the tax rates applicable in advance, leaving no chance for hurdle at a later stage. GCCI has also objected to giving adjudicating charges to departmental officers, claiming that they may show favoritism towards. They have recommended that such powers should be granted to former judge of the Supreme Court or state High Courts.
“The businessmen are agitated. They will protest on street if things don’t improve. The government has gone back on its earlier promise that no penalty would be levied for first two months,” said president of Gujarat Sales Tax Bar Association,Vaaris Isani.
However, Gujarat had witnessed number of protests over the implementation of the single tax, which the central government should consider this.
