Delhi, 21 Dec: Govt approves ordinances on enemy property bill and payment of wages act, Sources said.
To facilitate digital transfer of salaries payment of wages act has been approved. However, the cash payment system will also remain in place, a senior official said.
Government proposes to bring an amendment to Section 6 of the Payment of Wages Act. The proposed amendment will also ensure minimum wages are paid to employees and that their social security rights can be protected.
“An additional way of payment has been introduced through this ordinance. The old system of cash would also remain,” the official said.
The Cabinet also approved the doubling of the 172.64 km Rajpura-Bhatinda railway line in Punjab to generate additional freight traffic.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The project will cost Rs 1,251.25 crore, an official statement said. The doubling of the railway line is likely to be completed in five years, it said.
“Enhancement of capacity of power plants and planned freight terminals will generate additional freight traffic on this route. The doubling will ease the traffic bottlenecks and bring more revenue to Indian Railways.”
The districts of Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala and Bhatinda would benefit from the project.
Presently, the Rajpura-Dhuri-Bathinda is a single line broad gauge non-electrified section.
The Union cabinet approved the formation of Indian Enterprise Development Services (IEDS) cadre in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, an official statement said.
The formation of the new service in the Office of Development Commissioner of the MSME Ministry would enhance its capacity and efficiency, the statement, issued after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said.
