Government not serious about Backward Classes bill, says Chidambaram

Chidambaram

New Delhi, Aug 1: Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram today slammed the central government by saying it is not serious about the passage of the Constitution amendment bill.

Chidambaram took twitter to express his views. He tweeted “Congress and opposition parties supported OBC Bill. Government should have gracefully accepted amendments that strengthened the Bill.”

Condemning the centre, former Finance Minister said the amendments had been there with the Rajya Sabha for several days but the government did not involved the opposition to work out an agreement.

In a series of tweet, Chidambaram said “Government was totally unprepared and nonchalant. Did not even have full strength!” and  “Constitution Amendment is serious business. Government not at all serious.”

Yesterday, the government witnessed an embarrassment in the Rajya Sabha after it could not ensure passage of the bill to confer constitutional status on the Backward Classes Commission.
