Government convenes all party meet ahead of Monsoon Session of Parliament

New Delhi, July 17: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan is holding an all-party meeting to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament during the Monsoon session beginning Wednesday.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu will also meet floor leaders of the House at 5.30 pm today to share his concern about the dysfunctional House.

The Speaker has sought the support of the parties in ensuring smooth functioning of the session and passage of various pending bills.

The meeting is being attended by Congress leader Anand Sharma,Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad,BJP leaders Ananth Kumar, Vijay Goel and NCP’s Sharad Pawar .

As many as 40 bills introduced by the Narendra Modi government since 2014 are still stuck, with only 12 having been passed in the Lok Sabha, where it enjoys a comfortable majority.

Prior to this meeting, the government has convened an all-party meeting in New Delhi.

Opposition parties are expected to corner the Modi government by raising host of issues including mob lynching, problem of farmers, fall in value of rupee and continued violence in Kashmir. The TDP has indicated that it will again press for no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha.
