Addressing a press conference Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said “By increasing the MSP today the farmers of India will have an additional income to the tune of Rs 62,635 Crores”.
The development comes a day after farmers staged a massive protest on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border.
Hundreds of farmers under the Bhartiya Kisan Union carried out a march from Haridwar to reach the national capital.
However, they were stopped by the police at the border using water cannons and tear gas shells.
