June 23, Friday : Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday, revealed the third batch of smart cities, in which Kerala’s capital Thiruvanathapuram has topped the list, followed by Chhattisgarh’s new capital Naya Raipur among the 30 cities.
The proposed investment for the third list of smart cities under Centre’s “Smart Cities Project” is Rs 57,393 crore.
The third of smart cities was announced at the National Workshop on Urban Transformation in Delhi.
This time 45 cities were contested for the 40 vacant slots, but only 30 were selected bringing a total of Smart cities to 90.
Naidu while unveiling the another batch said, among 30 cities 26 have proposed affordable housing projects , 26 cities will be taking up school and hospital projects, while 29 will be taking up redesign and redevelopment of roads which will be beneficial for common man.
“All of them will put in place Integrated Command and Control Centres that enable coordination among various agencies for better service delivery and effective management of scarce resources like water and power. So, these are not mere cosmetic changes,” he added.
