New Delhi, June 11: Suspended Gorakhpur BRD Medical College Hospital Doctor Kafeel Khan’s younger brother Kashif Jameel was shot by unidentified bike-borne miscreants on Sunday.

According to the reports, the attack took place when Jameel was on his way home. He was shot at in Kotwali police station area of Gorakhpur.

After the news of Jameel being attacked broke, the Uttar Pradesh police was accused of delaying his surgery.

Going against doctors’ advice that bullets must be immediately removed from Jameel’s body, Khan claimed the police insisted on filing a medico-legal case before his brother was treated. A case was filed at a private hospital in Gorakhpur, the Indian Express reported.

It took an hour to register it (medico-legal case). They (police) again insisted that the medical college will file the medico-legal and a board will be set up and after that, you will get the clearance,” Khan said in a video he posted on Twitter.

However, the medical college clarified there was no need of filing a new case when it has already been registered, Khan said.

Speaking to ANI, Kafeel Khan on Monday said, “He is recovering now. A case has not been registered yet as police are waiting for his health to improve so he can tell what actually happened. He has shot just 500 meters away from Chief Minister residence, last night”.

Presently, Jameel is admitted to Star private hospital in Gorakhpur. He sustained three bullet shots–one each on his upper arm, neck and chin.
