Lucknow, Aug 27: Suspended Gorakhpur BRD Medical College Hospital Doctor Kafeel Khan on Monday accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of doing politics in infant death case.
Reacting to Adityanath’s remark, Khan said he is doing politics and trying to mislead people on the issue.
“What CM has said is incorrect. Many newborns also died in the incident, newborns don’t get Encephalitis. The supplier of oxygen had written to hospital authorities to clear his dues, to continue oxygen supply”, he added.
While addressing an event on Saturday, the Chief Minister had blamed internal politics at the hospital for the deaths and said that there was no shortage of oxygen.
“After the incident came to light, I immediately asked the Director General of Health, the Health Minister and the Medical Education Minister to reach the spot and report to me. Next day, I went there myself and came to know that there was no shortage of oxygen. Had it been oxygen shortage then the kids on the ventilator would have died first”, he had said.
Last year in August, more than 60 children, mostly infants, had lost their lives within a week due to disruption in the oxygen supply.
Following this, BRD Medical College Hospital landed into a controversy and Dr Kafeel Khan was arrested but now has been released.
The city police has completed its investigation and filed a charge sheet against all the nine accused in connection with deaths, including three other doctors besides Khan.
