June 12, Monday : The Election commission of India has sought contempt powers on Monday from the central government to take action against those who are trying to doubt on its credibility and tarnishing its image by levelling baseless allegations.
As per the report, EC wrote a letter to Law Ministry, seeking modification in the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
In its letter, the election panel has cited examples of other countries, where contempt proceedings can be initiated against anyone be it a person or an organisation tarnishing its image.
The EC demand comes after amid allegations made by some political parties, especially Aam Admi Party (AAP), which carried out the demonstration on how EVMs can be tampered easily.
Not only this AAP also accused the poll panel for playing favoritism.
