New New Delhi, July 8 : Dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the Kanpur encounter case in which he along with his men ambushed eight policemen last week in Bikaru village , was seen in a hotel in Haryana’s Faridabad near Delhi on Tuesday, police said.
Gurgaon is also on a high alert amid the speculation that the Dubey , who has been charged in 60 criminal cases including murder, kidnapping, extortion and rioting, may surrender in the National Capital Region.
On Tuesday afternoon, raids were conducted at the Faridabad hotel and two men were arrested. In a statement to news agency ANI, the hotel manager said that a man resembling the wanted gangster had left the hotel just before the cops reached. Police later confirmed the man was Vikas Dubey.
A CCTV footage recovered by the police shows Vikas Dubey in a mask. Of the two men who were arrested on Tuesday, Ankur helped the notorious criminal in hiding; Prabhat is from his village, officials said.
DGP Prashant said 50 teams were working on the case, conducting raids to arrest Dubey. The bounty on him was increased to Rs 2.5 lakh from one lakh on Monday.
Amar Dubey, a close aide of Vikas Dubey, was shot dead early Wednesday morning during an encounter by UP’s Special Task Force (STF) in Hamirpur district, about 200 km from state capital Lucknow. Another aide – Shyamu Bajpai – was arrested in a separate encounter in Kanpur.
