Los Angeles, July 13: Fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” has earned 22 nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards, where HBO’s 17-year streak as the most nominated network has been broken by Netflix. Sandra Oh became the first Asian actress nominated for lead in a drama series, and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was nominated posthumously for “Parts Unknown”.

The Television Academy had Samira Wiley and Ryan Eggold present the nominations here on Thursday morning.

For the “Game of Thrones”, the announcement was special given that in 2017, the HBO entertainer was ineligible to compete for the Emmys due to its seventh season’s later-than-usual summer debut. Now it has scored the most nominations for any single show at the 2018 Emmys.

However, HBO does not lead all nominees as Netflix beat its 108 score with 112 nominations, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

“Parts Unknown”, by Bourdain, whose death last month left the industry in disbelief, notched a total of six nominations for 2018, five of them in Creative Arts Emmy categories.

History was made when Oh, who had been named five times in the supporting category for her work on “Grey’s Anatomy”, was announced as a nominee for an Emmy for lead actress in a drama series, becoming the first actress of Asian decent to achieve the feat, variety.com reported.

The actress, born in Canada to Korean immigrant parents, has received the nomination for the critically acclaimed thriller “Killing Eve”, in which she plays Eve Polastri, a MI5 officer who is tailing an assassin.

Also, “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson bagged his first Emmy nomination after 15 years, since joining the series in 2003. He has been nominated for best supporting actor in a comedy series.

It is for the first time since 2011, the perennial winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus is not up for best actress in a comedy. Rachel Brosnahan, Tracee Ellis Ross and Issa Rae are among those vying for the award.

As for Netflix, The New York Times reports that its growth at the Emmys is staggering. In 2015, the streaming service had 34 nominations. In 2016, it had 54. Last year, that number was up to 91, second only to HBO’s. And this time, it has 112.

After “Game of Thrones”, “Westworld” and “Saturday Night Live” are the most nominated shows with a mention in 21 categories each.

“The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” drew the most nominations for a limited series with 18 nods, while “Atlanta” was the most nominated comedy series at 16.

Nominees in the Drama Series category include: “The Handmaida¿s Tale”, “Game of Thrones”, “This Is Us”, “The Crown”, “The Americans”, “Stranger Things” and “Westworld”.

Colin Jost and Michael Che will host the 70th Annual Primetime Emmys, to be held at the Microsoft Theater here on September 17. It will be aired in India on Star World and Star World HD.

Kangana bungalow demolition smacks of malice, says Bombay High Court

Ranaut had sought Rs 2 crore in damages from the BMC and urged the court to declare BMC’s action illegal

Kangana Ranaut

Mumbai, November 27: The Bombay High Court on Friday has said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) action of demolishing part of Kangana Ranaut’s bungalow here smacks of malafide and was done to cause substantial loss to the actor, and quashed the demolition order.

The court also said it did not approve of authorities using “muscle power” against any citizen.

A division bench of Justices SJ Kathawalla and RI Chagla noted that the action undertaken by the civic body left hardly “any manner of doubt” that it was unauthorised.

The bench was hearing Ranaut’s petition challenging the demolition carried out by the BMC at her Pali Hill bungalow in suburban Bandra on September 9.

“The civic body has proceeded to act wrongfully and illegally against the rights of a citizen,” the bench said.

Ranaut had sought Rs 2 crore in damages from the BMC and urged the court to declare BMC’s action illegal.

On the issue of compensation, the bench said it was appointing a valuer who would hear the petitioner and the BMC on monetary damages caused to her due to the demolition.

“The valuer shall by March 2021 pass appropriate orders on compensation,” the court said.

The civic body had opposed the plea and said the actor had brazenly and unlawfully carried out extensive alterations and additions to the bungalow in breach of its approved plan.

Ranaut had filed the petition on September 9 when the demolition process was initiated by the BMC. The court had in an interim order on September 9 stayed the demolition work. PTI

Bigg Boss 14: Kavita Kaushik’s husband reveals his relatives in law-enforcement approached him to file complaint against Aly Goni

Talking about his wife’s struggle Kavita Kaushik’s husband Ronnit Biswas slammed Aly Goni. Here’s what he said!

Bigg Boss 14 saw a massive showdown between Kavita Kaushik and Aly Goni after the actor lost his cool when she takes away his personal items as a punishment for breaking house rules.

In a fit of rage, Aly kicked a trash bin which hurt Kavita, who was standing close to it and the house erupted in chaos.

Now talking about his wife’s struggle Kavita’s husband Ronnit Biswas said, “Physical violence was never a thing which we had signed up for whether it happened directly or indirectly it doesn’t matter.”

“I had seen the promo first, a day before yesterday and I was very disturbed. But once I saw the way Kavita was putting up to it and how she was behaving I felt extremely proud of her. My sadness disappeared and I got happy thinking that no matter how much you try to target this girl, she will not bow down to anyone. She will come out shining and strong,” said a proud Ronnit in a conversation with ETimes TV.

He also went on to say that what Kavita said to Aly was not a big deal. Stating that Aly also said the same line to Kavita thrice, Ronnit revealed, “He has also said this to her thrice after that. So, I think the topic should have ended then and there itself. But I understand most of the housemates know that Kavita is quite strong and if they fight with her or corner her, they will get some footage. It is very sad that in a country where we keep talking about women are equal to men, we worship Goddess, we celebrate women and talk about women empowerment, there is a man who is threatening a woman on national television that he will make her life a living hell or won’t let her sleep.

Few of Ronnit’s relatives, who are in law enforcement, have approached him asking him if he wants to file a complaint against Aly Goni. “I have been getting a lot of calls from our well-wishers and relatives who are into the Police force, Government officials and they are asking me If I want to take action against Aly Goni or register a complaint. Although, I have told them that it is not needed, but I was expecting from the channel and the production house a stricter punishment. One week’s nomination doesn’t make any sense,” concluded Ronnit.

Let’s see if Aly and Kavita bury the hatches in weeks to come or not.
