Chennai, Nov 15: The ‘GAJA’ cyclone will make a landfall between Cuddalore and Pamban on Thursday by night bringing heavy rainfall to Tamil Nadu.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) “After landfall, the cyclonic storm is likely to retain its intensity for about six hours. Hence gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph is likely to prevail over adjoining interior districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places expected over interior districts during the same period.”
The Cyclone GAJA has intensified into severe category. It will reportedly get weaken into a Cyclone before land fall.
Damage Expected over Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts of TamilNadu and Karaikal district of Puducherry. Schools and colleges have been also closed in these areas.
In the wake of calamity, a total suspension of fishing operations along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts have been suspended for the next 24 hours till Friday.
As per the AIADMK government, telecommunication companies have assured they would have oil stocked for a minimum of five days in the cyclone expected zone and for 15 days at their headquarters.
The mobile telephone firms also assured the government of moving their mobile telecom towers or cell on wheels to Nagapattinam and Cuddalore.
