Funds okayed for free Metro, DTC rides for Delhi women

New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) The Delhi Assembly on Monday by voice vote approved for the transport sector Rs 479 crore additional grant, which includes funds for providing free rides to women in DTC buses and Delhi Metro as well as deployment of marshalls in the buses.

The supplementary grant demand, moved by Finance Minister Manish Sisodia, included Rs 140 crore for providing free transport to women on buses and Rs 150 crore for Metro travel.

Of the Rs 140 crore, Rs 90 crore has been kept for DTC buses and Rs 50 crore for cluster service buses, the proposal reads. Rs 142 crore was added to it for deployment of marshals in buses to enhance women security.

On June 3, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced the government’s plan to roll out a free travel scheme for women in Delhi Metro and DTC buses. He said the government would subsidise services providers.

While Kejriwal had announced that free rides will be provided from October, “the cabinet is yet to approved it,” Sisodia said on Monday. For free Metro rides, more time was required to complete the procedure, he added.

DTC gets 100 more new buses

New Delhi, Dec 10 : Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot here on Tuesday flagged off 100 buses from the Rajghat Bus Depot to be included in the DTC fleet. The new buses are equipped with GPS trackers, panic buttons, CCTV and hydraulic lifts for the convenience of the differently-abled.

The government has flagged off 429 buses in the previous months by the government.

He said the safety features in the 37-seater buses, include three CCTV cameras on each bus, a panic button on every alternate seat. “If a panic button is pressed, a large hooter goes off activating the command center,” he said.

“There are marshals on every bus in Delhi,” he reminded.

Bhopal, Dec 10 : The Income Tax Department and the Special Investigation team (SIT) of Madhya Pradesh Police have come face to face over the transactions of money between various officials, politicians, others and the women accused in the infamous honeytrap scandal in the state.

The I-T has sought information from the SIT, which is investigating the financial transactions of the women accused. Evidence and information so far points to transaction of several crores rupees between the women accused and their ‘victims’.

The Income Tax Department wants to investigate these transactions, but the SIT contends that the information can be shared only after the High Court order.

Alok Johri, Director of the Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department said his office wrote to the SIT in September after the disclosure in the honeytrap case and sought information about the financial transactions of the accused.

The department sent a reminder to the SIT in November. Sources in the IT department said the SIT has not responded so far.

Johri said the department took suo moto cognizance on the basis of media reports. The department cannot investigate it at its level. It needs specific documents to investigate the case, which he has not yet received.

Cash worth Rs 47 lakh was found from the ICICI Bank locker of accused Shweta Vijay Jain. This locker was opened by SIT itself.

In the diary of accused Monika Yadav, some bureaucrats of Chhattisgarh had given Rs 2 crore to the Honey Trap Gang through Hawala in Goa.

Some diaries also mentioned about taking Rs 7 crores from two leaders in Chhattisgarh. The department had asked SIT to give more details to investigate these cases.

Recently, the Central Agency for Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked the SIT for complete details of the money transactions.

The SIT chief Rajendra Kumar said that the cash recovered from the accused has been handed to the Income Tax Department.

He said the Income Tax Department wants the statement of transactions, which cannot be given without the order of the High Court because the investigation of the case is being done under the supervision of the Court. If the I-T authorities want more information, they will have to approach the High Court, Kumar said.

UP police escorts for women travelling alone at night

Lucknow: Police Response Vehicles (PRV) in Uttar Pradesh will now escort unaccompanied women to their destination between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Any unaccompanied woman, who is out on road during these hours could call a PRV to escort her by dialing 112, the emergency response service of UP police.

Director General of Police (DGP) O.P. Singh issued the order in the wake of recent spurt in crime against women in the state.

The DGP said: “The service has been started to provide better security to woman at night. Any unaccompanied woman in distress, or otherwise, can use this service to reach her destination safely.”

The PRV escorting the woman, will necessarily have two women officials. Police chiefs of each district have been asked to make arrangements for the same.

Ten per cent of PRVs in a district should definitely have women officials so that such PRVs could be sent to escort unaccompanied woman, the order said.

The district police chiefs have also been advised to provide necessary training for the same to these women officials.

The DGP, last week, had asked all private establishments to make necessary arrangements for the safe travel of women employees who are on late night duties.
